Type of Regatta

Long distance head race for the following boat classes:  1X, 8+, 4X+, 4+.

All crews will race over the 16km course.

Why get
involved

This race is the longest Western Australian head race in the RWA event calendar.

This year celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Perth to Fremantle head race which was first held in 1959 and was rowed from Fremantle to Perth and won by Fremantle Rowing Club.

Eligibility &
Entry Fees

Current Rowing WA members are eligible for entry into this regatta.

Interstate and overseas crews are eligible for entry into this regatta.

Members of a Rowing WA affiliated Rowing Club                $11 per seat (incl GST)

Non-members of a Rowing WA affiliated Rowing Club        $25 per seat (incl GST)

Interstate and international crews will receive a Swan River Classic Regatta Cap with their entry fee.

Entries

RWA Club crew entries and Interstate crew entries are to be submitted into Rowing Manager by 12:00pm (AWST) Sunday 19th May, 2019 - CLICK HERE TO ENTER .

International Crew entries are to be submitted to RWA Secretary, Laurie Anderson at secretary@rowingwa.asn.au by 12:00pm Sunday the 19th of May 2019.

Please make your entry as soon as possible.

Draws

Following the compilation of entries, the final entry list and draw will be published here on Wednesday  22nd May 2019.

Course

The Regatta course starts near the Narrows Bridge (out the front of the Old Swan Brewery) and finishes at the Fremantle Rowing Club.

A full Course Map, Alternate Course Map, Launch Area Map and a Trailer Parking and Finish Area Map for beaching boats and trailer parking will be provided to all entrants.

Should adverse weather conditions determine that the full course is not rowable, the alternate course will be considered by the event organisers.

All crews will be notified of a course change and alternate boat launching details as soon as possible.

Lighting Minimum Standard

To ensure rower safety the minimum standard of lighting for this regatta is a constant 360 degree white light on the bow and stern of your boat. All lights must be visible from 100 metres.

Sunrise is 7:05am on Sunday May 26 however as crews will likely launch earlier it is advised that bow lights be placed on all boats.

Risk
Management

Due to the risks of rowing in such a long and varying course it is compulsory for all coxswains to attend the Race Information Briefing.

Details regardin the briefing will be circulated following close of registrations

  • 4+   Coxed fours

Mixed gender and composite crews will be allowed entry.

Toilet & Change
Facilities

Launch area:

There are public toilet facilities near the South Perth car park area at Mill Point Reserve.

Finish line:

Toilet facilities are available at the Swan Yacht Club.

Toilet and change facilities are available at the Fremantle Rowing Club

Catering & Merchandise

Food and drinks can be purchased at the Swan Yacht Club and Fremantle Rowing Club.

Regatta Shirts and caps are available for purchase at the Swan Yacht Club following the race. Look for The Regatta Shop tent/stand.

The regatta schedule might change due to a range of reasons. Any changes will be posted here.

Race start times are indicatively:

1X           7:00am

8+           7:30am

4x+/4+   7:45am

Launch Area

Full course: The beach and adjoining car park on the South Perth foreshore under the Narrows Bridge.

Alternate course: To be confirmed

Finish
Landing Area

Boats crossing the finish line will need to row to a designated boat landing area. For ease of movement your landing area will be associated with the location of your trailer.

More infomration will be provided aftewr the close of entries when the number of trailers is better known.

Safety

  • Getting on and off the water should be done as smoothly and as quickly as possible.
  • All participants must follow instructions given to them by the race officials.
  • Recreational boats and other boating craft will have access to the Swan River during the regatta, a high degree of vigilance is required by coxswains during the race.
  • It is every rower’s responsibility to ensure the safety of their own crew and other crews is of utmost importance.

Travelling to/from

Trailers travelling from the boat launch area to the Fremantle Rowing Club will be directed on arrival to your allocated trailer parking position.

Parking positions will also be communicated to the coxswains attending the pre-race briefing.
