Western Fury take on Rowing

Published Fri 17 Mar 2017

On Thursday 16th March the Western Fury State Womens Cricket Team tried their hand at rowing as part of a team cohesion session as they conclude their pre-season training.

Hosted by Curtin University Boat Club (CUBC), the girls were initially a bit trepidus about getting on the water but after some technique instruction on the ergometers and calming words from CUBC coaches their confidence quickly rose and they headed for the water.

The team were split up to work in smaller groups, assisting each other gain their balance and confidence in single sculls. After some further instruction some players picked up the basics quite quickly, impressing the CUBC coaches and rowing off into the sunset. Others had a slower start, initially doing a bit more swimming rather than rowing, including some of the support staff.

The Fury players and staff had a great afternoon on the river with the CUBC team, gaining a better appreciation for the sport and learning a bit more about whether rowing could be an option after their cricket careers!!
