Hale and Christchurch victorious at Head of the River

SAT 17 MAR 2018

What an exciting day it was at today’s PSA Head of the River held at the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre.

Over 5,000 spectators witnessed crew from year 9 to year 12 battle it out in on the water in some trying conditions as the sind picked up throughout the morning.

The wind dropped off a bit for the feature race, the First VIII’s. in one of the most open fields for many year’s, you could have thrown a blanket over the field for the first 1000m. But it was at this point that Hale, coming off the back of a win last week, started to stamp their authority with Christchurch in hot pursuit. All crews dug deep but no one was able to reel in Hale who crossed the line in 5:48:83, 3.3 seconds ahead of Christchurch in second place.

Christchurch were not left without success, taking out the Hamer Cup, a tally of points across all events from the day.
