World Rowing Cup II Kicks Off in Varese, Italy, Showcasing Aussie Rowing Talent

The prestigious World Rowing Cup II commences tomorrow - Friday, 16th June, in Varese Italy, attracting over 650 rowers from 42 nations.  Among the contenders are talented Australian athletes, including Tara Rigney, bronze medallist at the 2022 World Rowing Championships, plus Anabelle McIntyre and Jessica Morrison, world silver medallists and Olympic Champions.

Additionally, Australia's accomplished Men's Four, Women's Four, Women's Quad Sculls, Men's Eight, and Women's Eight teams are set to compete, promising an exciting display of skill and competition.

Annabelle McIntyre OAM and Jessica Morrison, the Australian duo, who earned silver in the Women's Pair boat class at the 2019 World Championships and have the distinction of being Olympic Champions in the women's four will reunite on the water, marking their first rowing partnership since the Olympics.

Australia's seasoned Men's Four, who claimed victory at the Tokyo Olympics, bring their wealth of experience to the competition, aiming to demonstrate their resilience and skill as they go head-to-head with their youthful European counterparts.

In the Women's Four event, Australia enters with strong aspirations, fielding two experienced crews that include three bronze medallists from the 2022 World Rowing Championships, signaling their determination to pose a formidable challenge to their competitors.

Australia's Women's Quad Sculls team, comprised of Olympic bronze medallists, eagerly joins the competition at the World Rowing Cup II.  Meanwhile, the Men's Eight squad from Australia, who clinched the silver medal at the previous year's World Rowing Championships, will showcase their power and determination once again.  Notably, the 2023 World Rowing Cup series marks the debut of the Women's Eight event, absent in Zagreb, with Australia, Canada, and Great Britain as the three participating nations, intensifying the race to secure a favorable position and avoid finishing last in this highly anticipated contest.

From 16th - 18th June, 2023, Varese, Italy becomes the battleground for the 2023 World Rowing Cup II, as more than 650 athletes from 42 nations gather to compete in 26 boat classes over three thrilling days of racing.

Racing Commences:

  • Friday, 16th June at 8:30 CET (Central Europen Time)
    • 2:30pm AWST

Medal Races:

  • Saturday, 17th June at 15:20 CET
    • 9:20pm AWST
  • Sunday, 18th June at 10:05 CET
    • 4:05pm AWST
