WA Athletes Set for World Championship Campaign in Amsterdam

Western Australia will be proudly represented on the world stage in just a few days time, with a number of WA athletes selected in the Australian Rowing Team (Rowsellas) for the 2026 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from 24-30 August.

The World Rowing Championships are the pinnacle event of the international rowing season outside Olympic and Paralympic years, bringing together the world's best athletes, from 64 countries, to compete for the coveted rainbow stripes. For Australia's athletes, the championships will also provide an important milestone on the road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games.

For the WA athletes named in the team, selection is the culmination of years of dedication, sacrifice and perseverance. Behind every national team announcement are countless early mornings, kilometres rowed, strength and conditioning sessions completed, and a relentless commitment to improvement. Many have progressed through local clubs, school rowing programs and state pathways before earning the opportunity to represent Australia on the international stage.

The selected WA athletes join a strong Australian squad that heads to Amsterdam full of confidence after an encouraging international season. Strong performances at World Cup events in Seville and Lucerne have highlighted Australia's growing depth across men's, women's and para-rowing programs, with several crews entering the World Championships as genuine medal contenders.

The championships will be raced on Amsterdam's iconic Bosbaan course, a venue familiar to many of the athletes following recent international competition. Australia's coaches and athletes have spent recent months preparing in Europe, including training camps in Italy, to ensure they arrive ready to perform against the world's best.

For the Western Australian rowing community, seeing local athletes earn the right to wear the green and gold is a source of immense pride. Their success reflects not only their individual commitment, but also the contribution of coaches, clubs, volunteers, families and training partners who have supported them throughout their journey.

Rowing WA CEO Daniel Tackenberg said the selection of WA athletes in the national team was recognition of both their talent and the strength of the rowing pathways available in the state.

"To represent your country at a World Championships is an outstanding achievement and one that requires an incredible amount of hard work and resilience," he said.

"We're extremely proud of our WA athletes who have earned their place in the Australian team. They are exceptional ambassadors for our sport and inspire the next generation of rowers across Western Australia."

As racing begins in Amsterdam, the entire WA rowing community will be following closely and cheering on not only our Western Australian representatives but the entire Australian Rowing Team.

We wish all members of the Rowsellas every success at the 2026 World Rowing Championships and look forward to celebrating their achievements both on and off the water.

Congratulations to all selected athletes. Western Australia is behind you every stroke of the way. 💚💛🚣
