Published Tue 18 Nov 2025
A huge congratualtions to Simone Burge from Swan River Rowing Club.
Rowing Australia announced today the finalists for the 2025 'Volunteer of the Year'. Winners will be announced on December 5th at the 2025 Rower of the Year Awards in Canberra.
This award recognises individuals whose passion, generosity and dedication keep our sport moving forward. Rowing Australia are deeply grateful for the volunteers who give countless hours to support clubs, events and athletes. Our sport simply wouldn't be what it is without them.
Off the back of being named 'Club Volunteer of the Year' at the Rowing WA Rower of the Year Awards, Simone Burge is now a national finalist.
Simone has been the cornerstone of Swan River Rowing Club, dedicating countless hours across multiple roles, including decision-making, governance, active participation as a rower, and grassroots support. Her selfless and proactive approach, combined with her warm and positive attitude, inspires everyone around her to get involved and contribute to the club’s enduring legacy.
Simone’s commitment to inclusion and diversity has been transformative for Swan River Rowing Club. She champions initiatives that make the sport more accessible and welcoming, encouraging people from all walks of life to find their place within the rowing community.
She works tirelessly to convert corporate rowing participants into active club members and supports the Learn to Row programme, where she welcomes and mentors new rowers, helping them gain confidence and build connections within the club. Her generosity even extends to the logistical challenges of regattas, where she tows boats to and from events.
Simone’s unwavering commitment, diverse contributions, and ability to inspire and engage others truly set her apart.
Congratulations, Simone, and best of luck!
