WA Athletes Shine at World Cup III in Lucerne

WA Athletes Shine at World Cup III in Lucerne
Western Australia’s rowing talent was on full display at World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne, with several WA athletes playing key roles in Australia’s impressive campaign that yielded nine medals and a third-place finish on the overall medal tally.
The Australian Women’s Four, claimed a silver medal, with a time of 6:34.26, narrowly beaten by USA. The medal-winning performance was particularly pleasing for the WA rowing community, with three of the four crew members hailing from Western Australia, namely: Bronnie Cox (UWABC), Jacqui Swick (SRRC) and Giorgia Patten (WARC). These athletes delivered a composed and powerful performance across the regatta to secure a place on the podium and further strengthen Australia’s prospects heading towards the World Championships. The result continues a strong international season for the crew and highlights the depth of talent emerging from Western Australia’s high-performance pathway.
Western Australia was also strongly represented throughout the Australian squad by Ben Scott (M4-), Johnson Daubney (M4x), Alex Baroni (M2-) and Annabelle McIntyre (W1x), who contributed to Australia’s success in one of the most prestigious regattas on the international calendar outside the Olympic Games and World Championships.
Rowing WA CEO Danie Tackenberg said: "It is phenomenal to see these WA athletes performing and succeeding on the world-stage. Leading into the World Champs, it appears that these athletes are well-positioned to take on the World. We are extremely proud of the local clubs, coaches and pathway system that has allowed these athletes to achieve such success. We can wait to watch them again in Lucerne at the end of August"
For many of these athletes, Lucerne provided an important opportunity to test themselves against the world's best crews ahead of the 2026 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, from 24 - 30 August. Their performances demonstrated the strength of Western Australian rowing and the continued impact WA athletes are having on the national team.
Rowing WA congratulates Bronnie, Jacqui, Giorgia, Ben, Johnson, Alex and Annabelle and coaches involved in the Australian Rowing Team. Your performances continue to inspire the WA rowing community, and we look forward to cheering you on as you take on the world again in Amsterdam this August. 💚💛
