Rowing WA partner with Workpower to Deliver an Inclusive Indoor Rowing Program

Rowing WA has partnered with disability services partner Workpower WA to deliver its Rowing Radiance Indoor Rowing Program, providing a pathway to rowing for the all-abilities community.

Funded by The Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport under the Inclusive Participation Program (IPP), Rowing Radiance supports inclusive, accessible and welcoming sport opportunities for people from low participation groups.

The Workpower program kicked off in March, with 11 people participating in a nine-week indoor rowing program at Workpower’s Bentley facilities. A second program is now also running at Workpower’s Balcatta site, coached by highly experienced West Australian Rowing Club Coach, Catriona Walker.

Rowing WA CEO Daniel Tackenburg said Rowing Radiance is working to remove barriers and creating meaningful pathways into rowing.

“Through our collaboration with local rowing clubs and Workpower WA, we’re creating an inclusive and welcoming space where participants of all abilities can build confidence, connection and a sense of belonging through rowing.”

Workpower WA Wellness Coordinator Paul Richardson welcomed the collaboration which delivers benefits beyond that of physical activity.

“This program gives our participants the opportunity to try something new in a safe and supportive environment. It’s a great example of how organisations can work together to create positive outcomes for inclusion and wellbeing for all abilities people in our community,” he said.

Rowing Radiance demonstrates Rowing WA’s commitment to building pathways for participation, inclusion and community connection through sport.

The program runs until 2027 and has four local Rowing Clubs running a series of community programs for a range of low participation groups including adolescent girls, women 25+, seniors and all abilities across Perth and Bunbury.
