National Survey Gives Rowers a Voice in the Future of the Sport

Published Fri 13 Feb 2026

Rowing Australia’s Rowing in Australia Advisory Group (RiAAG) has launched national surveys for school and club rowers, providing athletes with a direct opportunity to shape the future of rowing in Australia

The surveys aim to better understand what influences athletes’ enjoyment, engagement and retention in the sport, particularly during key transition points such as the move beyond school rowing and post‑U23 competition.

Covering topics includingracing experiences, crew and club culture, and future preferences, the surveys will gather valuable insights to help improve the competitor experience nationwide. Results will be shared with clubs and State Sporting Organisations to inform future planning and delivery of domestic rowing.

RiAAG is seeking strong participation with the goal of identifying clear national trends by early March. Broad engagement is critical to ensure the findings genuinely reflect the views of rowers across Australia.

The survey findings are expected to contribute to discussions on domestic rowing at a club forum to be held at Lake Barrington during the Australian Rowing Championships.
