Joely Patterson & Alysia Johnston Awarded Level 2 Coaching Scholarships

It is with great pleasure that we congratulate Joely Patterson and Alysia Johnston as the latest recipients of the Level 2 Coaching Scholarship. Thanks to a generous grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries (DLGSC), these talented coaches will have the opportunity to complete their Level 2 Coaching Course, further enhancing their skills and knowledge in the field. Their diverse backgrounds and wealth of experience make them valuable additions to the coaching community, and we eagerly anticipate their progress.

Introducing Joely Patterson

Joely Patterson, an accomplished school rowing coach, has achieved remarkable success with her Junior crews in recent seasons. Her dedication extends beyond coaching, as she has also played a vital role in strength and conditioning roles at schools and her club. With her own impressive track record representing Western Australia on multiple State Teams, including the victorious 2021 Women's Youth 8+, Joely brings invaluable personal experience to her coaching. She aims to refine her technical analysis, rigging, and boat setup skills to coach Year 10 and Senior school crews with even greater expertise.


Introducing Alysia Johnston

Alysia Johnston, a recent graduate of Perth College, has embarked on her coaching journey through Perth College and ANARC, under the guidance of coach Graham. At ANARC, Alysia has been instrumental in developing their junior program, focusing on building a strong foundation for young rowers entering the club. Alysia's goal is to provide a dedicated space for juniors to learn about the sport, fostering their confidence and experience. The Level 2 coaching course will enable Alysia to further develop her skills and knowledge, strengthening the Junior Squad and supporting her athletes' growth.


While celebrating the success of Joely and Alysia, the assessment of scholarship applications continues, with another group of recipients expected to be announced in the coming fortnight. This ongoing support highlights the commitment to nurturing and elevating coaching talent within the community.

The entire community extends its gratitude to DLGSC for their generous grant, which enables the development of coaches like Joely and Alysia. These scholarships play a pivotal role in fostering coaching excellence and empowering coaches to make a significant impact on their athletes' development.
