International Coach Development Opportunity

Rowing WA has a strategic intent to engage with Asian countries to build on existing, and develop new, international rowing relationships.

With support from the Department of Creative Industries Tourism and Sport (CITS), Rowing WA aim to provide outbound pathway opportunities for athletes and coaches, as well as inbound opportunities for international squads to utilise WA’s world-class rowing coaching, facilities and equipment.

In partnership with the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), Rowing WA are able to support a developing coach as a representative of Rowing WA to undertake an 8-day placement to continue to develop our emerging relationship with Hong Kong and facilitate further planning to develop future reciprocal training and tour exchange opportunities for athletes, coaches and officials. The coach will have the opportunity to observe and support the Hong Kong China national rowing team in preparation for upcoming international regattas. The successful coach will be working closely with the HKSI Head Rowing Coach, Mr Kenny Wu and his team of seven coaches.

Mr Wu is preparing the Hong Kong squad for two international regattas in April and May 2026 and the successful Coach will be able to engage with the preparations for the following regattas:

  • 2026 Asian Rowing Cup (Asian Rowing Federation) (24-26 April) in South Korea
  • 2026 World Cup II (World Rowing) (12-14 June) in Bulgaria

The following dates have been made available to RWA which the successful coach will be able to choose between. These dates represent the period that the full Hong Kong China squad will be together at the HKSI.

  • 6-12 April 2026
  • 9-15 April 2026
  • 4-10 May 2026

This opportunity supports our commitment to provide our coaching community with opportunities to expand their skillset through exposure to coaching at an international level.

The Package

RWA are able to fully support the following expenses associated with the 9-day (8-night) trip through the grant funding:

-          Return flights to Hong Kong

-          Accommodation (8 nights)

-          Travel stipend (a daily amount to cover ground transport to and from the airport/training)

Travel insurance*, all food and any additional costs will be covered by the successful coach.

*Travel insurance is an essential requirement for taking up in this opportunity.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to an accredited coach that is actively involved in a rowing program in Western Australia. Coaches must be available to travel on one of the travel options outlined and act as an ambassador for rowing in Western Australia.

Register your interest by sending an expression of interest letter of no more than two pages detailing how this opportunity will support your professional development as well as it’s long-term benefit to the rowing community that you are a part of in WA. Whilst not essential, a familiarity with the Asian region should also be mentioned.

Send your expression of interest letter to the Asian Engagement Project Officer, via email (mark@rowingwa.asn.au), by AWST 16:00 on Sunday 15 February.

The following information must be received with your expression of interest:

  • Your preferred date options
  • Your citizenship as reflected on your passport
    •  Including confirmation of your ability to receive visa-free travel to Hong Kong
  • Passport expiry date
    • Ensuring at least three months validity after the return date
  • A one-page rowing CV detailing your achievements in rowing to date and your present role within rowing,

 

Outcome

Applicants will be notified of an outcome by Friday 20 February.
