Future Green & Gold Talent ID Opportunity
Published Fri 19 Jun 2026
Olympic Talent Search: Could You Be Australia’s Next Rowing Star?
The search is on for the next generation of Australian sporting champions – and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is encouraging young Western Australians to put their potential to the test.
Through the Future Green & Gold Olympic Talent Search, the AIS is casting the net wide to uncover athletes with the physical attributes, mindset and drive to succeed on the world stage. As Australia builds towards the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, this national initiative is designed to identify untapped talent and fast-track athletes into high performance pathways.
For the rowing community, this presents an exciting opportunity. Many of Australia’s top athletes have transitioned from other sports or been identified through talent transfer programs – and rowing continues to benefit from strong, powerful athletes with endurance, coordination and determination.
Who should apply?
The program is open to:
• Athletes aged 13–23 (born between 2003 and 2013)
• Australian citizens or those eligible for citizenship
• Individuals with a general level of athletic ability – no prior elite experience required
Whether you’re currently competing in another sport, playing school sport, or simply have a passion for physical challenge, this is your chance to explore where your abilities could take you.
What’s involved?
The process is simple and accessible:
• Register your details online by the 22nd June
• Receive an invitation to attend a Talent Search event (if eligible)
• Complete testing to assess speed, strength, power and endurance
• Be matched to sports where you show the greatest potential
• Progress into trials and further development opportunities if selected
Participants who demonstrate strong potential may be invited into structured training programs, providing a direct pathway into high performance sport.
Why it matters for rowing
Rowing has a proven record of welcoming athletes from a wide range of sporting backgrounds. Talent identification initiatives like this strengthen the national pathway, helping athletes transition into sports where they can excel – including rowing.
Programs supported by the AIS and state institutes play a critical role in guiding athletes into environments like WAIS and Rowing Australia pathways, which are designed to develop future national representatives and Olympians.
Ready to be discovered?
This is a rare opportunity to be tested by Australia’s leading high performance experts and potentially set yourself on the path to representing Australia.
• WA registrations close: 22 June 2026
• WA Talent Search event: 28 June 2026
If you, your athletes, or someone in your club fits the criteria, don’t miss this chance.
