FOR A CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S ROWING IN WA

Did you know that 50 years ago WA held the national women’s rowing championships at Canning Bridge?

That’s right… back then women’s rowing was run separately to men’s rowing.

Women had been rowing in WA since the 1920s and in 1975, the last national championships for women - organised by the WA Women’s Rowing Council - was held in Perth.

UWA are generously hosting this national milestone celebration. You will be able to find out which clubs competed and hear the stories about women’s participation in rowing through the decades.

This is also an opportunity to meet the first female Olympians and hear from the women behind the rise of schoolgirl rowing in WA.

So, get down there, enjoy a high tea, and the display of memorabilia. Bring your rowing friends for a panel discussion hosted by former ABC reporter and current masters rower Miriam Borthwick.

This celebration will take place on Sunday November 30 from 3-6pm.  Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by clicking here.
