Bunbury Schools Visit
Published Wed 12 Nov 2025
Rowing WA hits the road and brings rowing to Bunbury Secondary Students
In September, Rowing WA School Development Officer, Lara Glendinning, introduced the sport of rowing to more than 400 Bunbury students. Working alongside Bunbury Rowing Club Head Coach, Chris Iredale, the team transported a trailer full of ergometers to Bunbury Senior High School, Bunbury Catholic College, and Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School during a week-long outreach initiative.
Students received a brief demonstration of rowing technique and learned about the physiological benefits of the sport before having the chance to try out the ergometers for themselves. The sessions included a lively “Penalty Shootout” game, followed by team sprint relays, which generated plenty of enthusiasm among participants.
It was fantastic to see Women’s C Grade Double Scull 2025 State Champions, Emilia Cross and Ella Scott-Higgins, as well as talented up and comer Aiden Behan, at their local schools.
Special thanks are extended to Bunbury Rowing Club for supplying equipment for the week, and to the three schools for their generosity, hospitality, and enthusiastic engagement. Their willingness to participate made the initiative a great success.
Secondary students in Bunbury and nearby areas who are keen to try rowing or join a squad are encouraged to contact Chris at Bunbury Rowing Club atheadcoach@bunburyrowingclub.com for more information.
