Boat Race Official (BRO) - Information session
Love rowing and want to stay involved in the sport? Boat Race Officials are essential to the safe, fair and smooth running of every regatta, and we are always looking for new people to join our officiating community.
Whether you are a former rower, a uni student looking for weekend work, or a parent already at the regatta, officiating offers a unique way to stay connected and enjoy the best seat on the water.
Why become a BRO?
• Be part of the action at club and school regattas
• Learn new skills with mentoring and hands‑on experience
• Flexible involvement to suit your availability
• Clear pathway from beginner to accredited official
• Opportunities to progress as far as international and Olympic regattas
Getting started is easy:
• Attend a free Level 1 BRO Information Session
• Complete the free, self‑paced Level 1 online course
• Learn on the job at regattas with experienced mentor officials
Who can apply?
• Anyone aged 16 years and over
• No prior rowing experience required
• A Working with Children Check is required (support available to obtain this)
If you have ever thought about giving officiating a go, now is the perfect time to start. Your journey could be as casual or as ambitious as you choose – every BRO plays a vital role in our sport.
