2026 Festival of Rowing Heads to Bunbury

Published Thu 12 Mar 2026

Rowing WA, in partnership with the Bunbury Rowing Club and the City of Bunbury, is proud to announce the return of the Bunbury Big Boat Sprint Regatta to Leschenault Inlet on Saturday 18 April 2026, building on the strong momentum and growth achieved over recent years.

The second year of the partnership between Rowing WA and the City of Bunbury continues to play a vital role in strengthening rowing opportunities in the South West. Support from the City of Bunbury has directly contributed to increased participation and enhanced event experiences, helping the regatta grow by over 60%, from 146 athletes in 2024 to 234 athletes in 2025. In 2026, this continued support will be used to further incentivise metropolitan and other regional clubs to participate in this festival of rowing and enjoy the many attractions that Bunbury has to offer.

First recognised by the Rowing Association of Western Australia in 1930, the Bunbury Regatta has long been a highlight of the rowing calendar. Formerly known as the Easter Regatta, it remains one of Western Australia’s most historic regional rowing events and continues to evolve to meet the needs of today’s rowing community.

The 2026 Bunbury Big Boat Sprint Regatta will again feature a series of fast‑paced sprint races designed to deliver an exciting experience for both competitors and spectators. With the regatta scheduled alongside the 2026 Bunbury Rowing Club Eaton Head Race, being held the following day, clubs and athletes are encouraged to make a full weekend of racing and community connection in the City of Bunbury. The Eaton Head Race has also experienced strong growth, with participation increasing by approximately 39%, from 70 athletes in 2024 to 97 athletes in 2025, further demonstrating the appeal of this regional rowing weekend.

Pennant points continue to be up for grabs at the Big Boat Sprint Regatta, which makes the weekend a great opportunity for clubs to get some early season points on the board.

Mayor Jaysen Miguel said the continued success of the event reflects the value of investing in sport and community events that showcase Bunbury’s unique natural assets and welcoming atmosphere.

We are proud to continue supporting the Bunbury Big Boat Sprint Regatta and the broader regatta weekend. These events not only celebrate highquality sport on Leschenault Inlet but also bring athletes, families and supporters to our city, allowing them to experience everything Bunbury has to offer. The growth in participation is a testament to the commitment of the organisers and the strength of our partnership” Mayor Miguel said.

With racing spread across two days, Rowing WA and Bunbury Rowing Club are encouraging visiting clubs to take the opportunity to stay, explore and enjoy the City of Bunbury — from its coastline and dining precincts to its vibrant local attractions — while supporting a thriving regional rowing community.

The event can be found here in our regatta calendar.
