WA Athletes Shine at Australian & Oceania Beach Sprints Championships

Western Australian athletes have returned from the 2026 Australian & Oceania Beach Sprints Championships on the Gold Coast with an outstanding haul of medals, showcasing the strength of coastal rowing talent emerging from across the state.

Held over four days at Currumbin Creek, the Championships attracted more than 190 entries across various age categories, with athletes from Australia and across the Pacific competing for national honours.

WA rowers from Swan River Rowing Club and Fremantle Rowing Club delivered impressive performances throughout the regatta, securing 10 medals across a range of events and age categories.

Rowing WA was also proud to have representation off the water.Grant Ford served as a Boat Race Official, helping ensure fair and safe competition across the four-day regatta, while Conall Hansford and Ellie Madin volunteered throughout the event, contributing to the successful delivery of the Championships.  

The Australian & Oceania Beach Sprints Championships continue to provide an important pathway for athletes interested in coastal rowing, a rapidly growing discipline that will make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
