2022 Rower of the Year Awards Evening

Saturday, 15th October saw WA clubs come together to celebrate the race that was this year - 2022.  The beautiful location of Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club was once again the venue of choice for WA's rowing Night-of-Nights.

It was fantastic to see so many rowers, coaches, administrators, officials, volunteers and supporters of rowing on the evening, gathered to celebrate the year that had been and the amazing successes that had been achieved locally and abroad by the WA rowing fraternity.

Rowing WA President, David Rose opened the evening with a welcoming speech to guests expressing pride and admiration for the many achievements of the year from the WA rowing community.  Looking ahead to next year he said;

"Looking forward to 2023, we will play host to the Australian Rowing Championships for the 1st time in 11 years.  This pinnacle event for the sport in Australia will see over 1500 rowers descend on Champion Lakes for a week of competition and other activities.  Rowing WA will need significant support form the rowing community to put this event on as well as ensure we have great participation from local clubs and schools."

Rowing Australia's CEO, Ian Robson - who was unable to attend the evening - passed on this message;

"Good evening everyone, I am sorry I am not able to be with you all.  In reflecting on the 2022 year, can I add my congratulations to all of the award winners and more broadly to all of those who were nominated for awards for their on water performances and off water contributions to our great sport.  Everyone in the WA rowing community should be incredibly proud of the performances of WA athletes in Australian Rowing Teams at Senior and Pathway levels. There is a solid platform in place for a continued strong WA representation into 2023 which is a critical year to secure qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic & Paralympics.  With that in mind, and to conclude, I know I speak on behalf of everyone in the Australian Rowing Community when I say how much we are looking forward to gathering at Champion Lakes next March for the 2023 Australian Rowing Championships.  I look forward to seeing you all there."

Jamie Hewlett (WAIS) officiated proceedings for the evening with an entertaining flair as award winners were presented throughout the evening.
