Umpire/ Marshal/ Rescue Boat Drivers
Purpose of Role:
The Boat Driver is a voluntary position responsible for ensuring a successful event through driving umpires during racing and safety boats during racing and training.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Drive umpiring boats during racing according to event requirements
· Drive safety boats during racing and training according to event requirements
· Report any issues relating to the condition or maintenance of the boat to the nominated boat maintenance officer.
Note: This position will require a current boat driver license (RST). Experience driving umpires boats during regattas and/or Boat Race Official experience is essential.
Boat Holders
Purpose of Role:
The Boat Holder is a voluntary position that supports the fair and orderly boat racing by holding boats at the start of each race.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Adjust start fingers as required by the start officials.
· Hold and adjust boat position at the start as instructed by the start aligner.
· Undertake other duties as instructed by event umpires and boat holding team leaders.
Note: This position will require volunteers to lie down for extended periods of time and may require some strength to hold boats in difficult conditions.
Time Keepers
Purpose of Role:
To ensure accurate timing of races at the specified distances.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Work within a small team to time keep as required at the 500m and race finish
· Undertake other duties related to timekeeping as required
· Support the Technology Manager in any other way required.
Note: Preference will be given to volunteers with timekeeping experience.
Timekeepers will be requested to attend a technical dress rehearsal on the morning of the day prior to the regatta start
Regatta Administration assistants
Purpose of the role:
Coordinate the Boat Park office including competitor scratching’s and substitutions through regatta technology and regatta information distribution; and other roles as required by the RA Technology Manager
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Conduct daily area safety check of the Athlete Services’ space.
· Collect and enter competitor scratching’s and substitutions through RP7 and liaise with the Technology Manager on any race progression changes this may result in.
· Be knowledgeable about the Rules of Racing in regards to their application to entries and substitutions.
· Answer questions in regard to racing and competition, or pass queries on where appropriate.
· Direct all newly recruited volunteers (by the Coordinator) to register via the volunteer registration system.

Bow Number Coordinators
Purpose of Role:
To provide and implement a system for the distribution and return of boat bow numbers.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Work within a small team to establish an efficient system for the distribution and retrieval of bow numbers
· Implement and monitor the agreed distribution and return procedures
· Support the Technology Manager in any other way required.
Note: Previous experience in bow number distribution is desirable. Ability to work closely with other team members is essential.
Medal Presentation Assistants
Purpose of Role:
The Pontoon Assistant is a voluntary position that assists with the smooth running of the medal presentations as well as boat holding at victory ceremonies that enables smooth rotation of boats approaching and leaving the victory pontoon area.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Ensure boats at the victory and finish pontoon are held securely.
· Ensuring boats enter and depart the victory ceremony in a safe and orderly fashion.
· Ensure medals and trophies are in order and ready for presentation
· Organise medal bearers and medal and trophy presenters,
· Support the Ceremonies Coordinator in any other way required.
Note: The Pontoon Assistant must have knowledge of the safe handling of rowing boats, be nimble and be prepared for lots of bending.
Courtesy Bus Drivers
Purpose of the role:
To ferry people to and from the further away car parks to the Island.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Drive a minibus in a safe manner according to event requirements
· Report any issues relating to the condition or maintenance of the boat to the nominated boat maintenance officer.
Marshals
Purpose of the role:
The Marshals are volunteer positions where they ensure boats are moving in right direction as well as ensuring crews move to the start line correctly.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Ensure boats are moving in and out of the start pontoons correctly
· Ensure the correct boats move to the start line together
· Report missing boats to the relevant Coordinators
· Work with RA staff to ensure smooth running of the on-water activities
Note: Marshals must have prior RWA or RA experience.
Operations Assistants/ All rounder
Purpose of the role:
The Operational Assistance will be helping with general regatta admin as well as being involved in overall operations.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Ensuring other volunteers have what they need to operate effectively.
· Assist the Technology Manager where needed.
· Filling Gaps where the Field of Play manager requires.
· Helping the Workforce assistant where required.
