CLUB COACH OF THE YEAR

This Award is for a coach who has the most outstanding performance demonstrated by the success of his/her crews and his/her contribution to rowing coaching at club level. Nominations are taken from Clubs and affiliated members within the rowing community.

Nominees for 2019 Club Coach of the Year are:

  • Catriona Walker, West Australian Rowing Club
  • Vanessa Grant, Perth Rowing Club
  • Jo Boserio, Curtin University Boat Club
  • Lachlan Chapman, Swan River Rowing Club
  • Tom Gatti, Fremantle Rowing Club
  • Nicholas Wynne, Curtin University Boat Club

For all those coaches nominated tonight and those that haven’t. Coaching is the backbone of this sport at all levels. You are the glue that holds everything together and we take our hat off to you all.  But the winner of the 2019 Club Coach of the Year is:

Lachlan Chapman from the Swan River Rowing Club

AND

Jo Boserio from the Curtin University Boat Club

For the first time ever we have a dual winner. The selection panel could not split Lachlan and Jo when deliberating and believed that both coaches deserved to be recognised for their outstanding efforts and commitment this season.

Over the past season Lachlan has portrayed a huge commitment to the Swan River Rowing Club, consistently coaching 5 mornings per week. On top of this he attended all Pennant and All Schools regattas to not only organise his own crews but to assist the rest of the club in the boat park. His hard work paid off with 31 of 44 All Schools crews coached by Lachie reached A finals, winning 13 medals (6 golds, 2 silvers and 5 bronzes. At the State Champs 18 crews qualified for A finals winning 8 medals (2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronzes). Lachie’s versatility as a coach was on display this year coaching learn to row programs at the club but also assisting a year 11 rower to selection in the State Pathway VIII.

Equally as impressive is Jo Boserio from the Curtin University Rowing Club. Jo committed over 300 hours of direct coaching in the past year attending all school, masters, pennant and head race regattas. On top of the being the Head Coach and Coordinator of the All Saints College rowing program she also coached the Curtin Uni Boat Club novice men’s squad who she developed from complete novices to dully competitive members. Jo also assisted with the coaching of the CUBC Masters Womens crew which saw her take the CUBC Women’s D8 crew to a second place finish at the 2018 Head of the Yarra. Jo’s love for coaching is continually on display through her passion to assist with the clubs learn to row programs.
