2006-7 STATE SELECTION POLICY
STATE CREWS
· This Selection Policy is applicable to all crews selected to represent the State of Western Australia. Sanctioned regattas include the Interstate Regatta, Youth Cup, Youth Olympics and the Australian Masters Championships.
· Prior to being selected in any State crew, an athlete must be a registered member of a club affiliated with Rowing WA.
· The criteria used to determine Coaches for the State team will be based on applications for positions, past history and experiences, availability and passion. The selection panel will make the final decision on each crew Coach and their assistant.
· The coxswains will be appointed based on the recommendations of the State Head Coach and each crew Coach and Assistant.
· Athletes who wish to be considered for State selection will need to complete the following tests, at times to be determined by the State Team Selection Panel.
· Athletes are strongly encouraged to complete all ergometer testing
2000m ergo test.
Aerobic Capacity Test on ergo:
4 x 4475m Hw and Lw Senior Men;
4 x 4345 Junior Men;
4 x 4348 H/W Women;
4 x 4103 Junior Women;
4 x 4070 L/W Women.
6000 ergo test.

Ĝ Interstate Regatta (11th March 2007)
· Following is the 2006-7 State team testing schedule for the Interstate Regatta;
Oct Aerobic Capacity test
(Compulsory for WAIS athletes, club coaches to decide to complete either the aerobic capacity test or 4 x 15min)
Oct 6km Ergo test
*Athletes completing their TEE can do the above 2 tests anytime between Oct 29 and Nov 11)
Nov 2 x 5.2km time trial
(First time trial in 1x or 2- second boat to be decided in consultation between club coach and selection panel)
Dec 2 x 5.2km time trial
(First time trial in 1x or 2- second boat to be decided in consultation between club coach and selection panel)
Dec 2km Ergo test*
Dec 6km Ergo test*
Dec Aerobic Capacity test*
Jan 2000m time trial (on water)
Feb 2000m ergo test
*Athletes selected for the National Time Trial will complete their testing on Dec 11 and 12.
· Further testing dates for January and February will be published and distributed to all clubs after consultation with the State Team Selection Panel.
· The State Head Coach, in conjunction with the Coach and the Assistant of each State boat, will select a state team squad after the December ergo tests and Time Trials This squad will commence training immediately.
· The State Team Selection Panel, in conjunction with the crew Coach, will then decide the final squad for each State team boat. This will be based on the ergo testing, on water testing, and each athlete's individual technique while training in the State boat.
· The final squads for all State crews for the Interstate Regatta will be announced in February after racing. Final crews may be announced at any time up until and including the morning of the relevant race. National squad relocated athletes will be considered for these crews based on their National team selection tests and their on water performance.
· In exceptional circumstances, or if an athlete's performance declines, the crew may be changed in order to further improve the crew. This would be under the direction of the Head Coach and the crew Coach.
Ĝ Australian Masters Championships (1-3 June 2007)
· Eligible athletes must submit nominations to George Xouris by 28th February 2007.
· Athletes who wish to be considered for State selection may need to complete the following tests, at times to be determined by the State Team Selection Panel.
1000m ergo test
1000m time trials in coxless fours for sweep crews
1000m time trials in single sculls for sculling boats
Ĝ Youth Cup (1-3 September 2006)
10 male and 10 female athletes are selected to represent the State in the Youth Cup. Each group will consist of six (6) heavyweight and three (3) lightweight athletes and one (1) coxswain.
Athletes expecting to qualify as lightweights are required to be no more than the following weights at the weigh in on 1st August. (male: 74.2kg, female: 60.42kg)
The following is the testing schedule for the 2006 Youth Cup.
· July 15th Final date for receipt of nomination forms
· July 29th All nominated athletes to compete in regatta in 1x or 2-
· August 1st 2000m ergo test
· August 2nd 6000m ergo test
· August 6th selection of squads
· August 12th 2 x 2000m time trials (2X, 4X, 4-)
· August 13th review of squad
· August 20th selection of final crews
Any schoolgirl athlete that has nominated for the Youth Cup but is involved in Head of the River crews with their school must compete in on-water selection trials on August 20th. 2000m ergometer trials completed for the school can be submitted instead of/ as well as, the August 1st ergometer trial. The selectors reserve the right to review the crews following these trials on August 20th.
Ĝ Youth Olympics (8-14 January 2007)
10 male and 10 female athletes are selected to represent the State in the Youth Cup. Each group will consist of six (6) heavyweight and three (3) lightweight athletes and one (1) coxswain.
Athletes expecting to qualify as lightweights are required to be no more than the following weights at the weigh in on 23rd October. (male: 74.2kg, female: 60.42kg)
· October 8th Final date for receipt of nomination forms
· October 23rd 2000m ergo trials
· October 24th 6000m ergo trials
· October 25th Aerobic capacity test on ergos
· November 4th 2 X 5.2km time trial
· November 5th 2 X 2000m time trials (1st 1X, 2-, 2nd 4X, 2X, 4-)
· November 12th Final selection of squads.
MEDICAL
If the criteria cannot be completed due to medical reasons, evidence by way of doctor's certificate or physiotherapy report must be provided to the State Crew Coach who must forward the evidence to the Head Coach.
INTERSTATE ATHLETES
Athletes, who are training outside of Western Australia, may be eligible for the State team. These athletes' performances (whatever they may be) will be assessed by the State Head Coach and the respective crew Coach.
DRUG TESTING
All athletes need to comply with the Rowing Australia anti-doping guidelines
STATE TEAM SELECTION PANEL
The members of the Panel in 2006-7 are, WAIS Rowing Head Coach, WAIS Rowing Senior Coach, WAIS Rowing Junior Coach, George Xouris & Stephen Mann
CODE OF CONDUCT
All athletes must sign Rowing WA's Code of Conduct prior to representation in any State team.
