Field of Play Manager
Purpose of Role:
To be responsible for the co-ordination of the venue set-up; and operations specifically relating to on-water competition and field of play.
The purpose of the Field of Play Manager is to ensure the competition area (Boat Park, training lake, Competition Lake, etc) is operating to the standard of Rowing Australia events to deliver the highest quality experience for event attendees.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Working in conjunction with the Competition Manager – Events:
- Conduct pre-event course inspection and technical dress rehearsal in conjunction with RA Technical Delegate
- Conduct daily area safety check of the Field of Play
- Coordination and event day management (including bump-in, pre-event training and bump-out) of specific course set-ups including but not limited to training and racing configurations and the warm up lake
- General coordination and event day management (including bump-in, pre-event training and bump-out) and maintenance of boating pontoons in conjunction with the Boat Park Coordinator
- Coordination of course marshals as required by the RA Technical Delegate and President of the Jury
- Coordination and event day management (including bump-in, pre-event training and bump-out) of start and finish area installations and facilities
- Liaising with the President of the Jury, Technical Delegate in regards to the set-up of the Control Commission, Bow numbers, Coxswain Weighing.
- Assisting RA Technology Manager in technical installations, as required
- General supervision of the Boat Park Coordinator and other volunteer positions as required
- Direct all newly recruited volunteers (by the Coordinator) to register via the volunteer registration portal or directly with the Volunteer Coordinator
Expectations:
- Complete responsibilities as specified above
- Attend planning meetings as required.
- Act in good faith to maintain high standards of customer service.
- Ensure safe WHS and manual handling practices are undertaken (where required training may be provided to individuals)
- Mutually resolve conflicts as soon as practicable and to the satisfaction of both parties
- Indicate any risks that may arise during the time of the project to the Competition Manager - Events
- Comply with the level of delegation given to the position
- Comply with all approval processes that are implemented by the Organising Committee
- Work cooperatively with all members and facets of the Organising Committee
Volunteer Management:
- The Field of Play manger is expected to work with the event management team to appropriately manage their volunteers on the day.
- Volunteers should be given adequate breaks as well as access to water, shade, hat, and an event uniform.
- All volunteers will be provided a lunch or breakfast depending on their shift time. Advise volunteers of where to collect lunch / breakfast as required.
- Any issues with coordinating and supervising volunteers, with volunteer roles or any other issues with volunteers need to be communicated to the volunteer coordinator immediately
- All incidents with volunteers (injuries, complaints etc) need to be reported to the volunteer coordinator and an incident report needs to be completed
