Volunteers are the backbone of our sport!
A new WA Government initiative has launched to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution of community sport volunteers, and rowing clubs are encouraged to get involved by nominating those who go above and beyond. Every fortnight from March to November 2026, two volunteers will be recognised, receiving a $400 Spudshed (or local equivalent) voucher and a mention in The West Australian.

Have your say on the future of rowing
Rowing Australia’s Rowing in Australia Advisory Group (RiAAG) has launched national surveys for school and club rowers, giving athletes the chance to shape the future of rowing in Australia.
Club and school rowers are encouraged to complete the surveys and have their say.
The surveys explore:
• Enjoyment and engagement in the sport
• Racing and club culture
• Retention beyond school and U23 rowing

Nominations for the Pathway Program close this Friday 20 February at 5pm. This is a great opportunity for athletes looking to take the next step in their rowing journey and be part of the state pathway environment.

Volunteers needed - Australian Masters Rowing Championships
From 27–30 May 2026, Rowing WA will host Masters rowers from across Australia and the Championship Regatta would not be possible without the dedication and generosity of our volunteers. What a great way to be in on all the action of this exciting major National event happening at our doorstep. No experience is necessary!

Are you a former rower, a uni student looking for weekend work, or a parent already at the regatta? Officials have the best seat on the water and we are always looking for new people to join our BRO community.

If you are comfortable using a computer and would like flexible weekend work, we would love to hear from you.
Rowing WA is seeking Technical Assistants to support regattas throughout the season. There is no fixed commitment, no previous experience is required, and, you can choose the regattas that suit your availability.

Matilda Bay: Updates & Actions
Community members are encouraged to make their voices heard on this important issue. Numbers matter, and public support helps ensure the Government understands how strongly the community feels about getting this right.
Supporters are invited to gather on the steps of State Parliament on Thursday at 1.00pm to hear from Members of Parliament, Aboriginal elders and community representatives.
The event will advocate for the proposed alternative location at Nedlands Jetty near JoJo’s, which uses existing infrastructure and avoids unnecessary impacts to the Matilda Bay foreshore and surrounding land and water use.

Safety 101 - Off-site Rowing
Off-site rowing activities such as camps, tours and coastal rowing require the same strong focus on safety as on-water training at home. When rowing away from your club or school, extra planning is essential to manage unfamiliar conditions, equipment and emergency arrangements.
All the same safety measures should be put in place when rowing in foreign locations, such as: Coaches to familiarise themselves with local hazards, course routes, local weather and water conditions.
