Historic Beach Sprint Finals

The 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals in Antalya, Türkiye marked a historic milestone as the first World Championships for the discipline in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympiad cycle. This year’s event drew record participation, with 342 athletes from 55 nations competing across 10 boat classes, highlighting the sport’s rapid global growth.

A special congratulations to WA star Blake Whyatt, who proudly represented Australia in the Mixed Double, showcasing skill and determination on the world stage.

Beach Sprint Season is Here!

The Beach Sprint season is officially underway! Our recent Come & Try Day at Coogee Beach, held alongside a vibrant surf life saving carnival, was a fantastic success and a great way to kick things off.

What’s next?

• Regatta #1 – Sunday 16 November at Coogee Beach, Woodman Point: 8am - 1pm
  • Draw & Results - Make sure to come down and witness the speed and surf!
• Regatta #2 – Sunday 14 December, location and start time TBC
  • Entries open soon!

These events are open to both members and non-members, so spread the word and join in the fun!

50 Years of Women’s Rowing – A Celebration You Won’t Want to Miss!

Did you know WA hosted the National Women’s Rowing Championships at Canning Bridge 50 years ago?

You can celebrate women in rowing and enjoy an afternoon of stories, memorabilia, and high tea with the WA Women's Rowers of the 70's . Hear from the first female Olympians, meet the women behind the rise of schoolgirl rowing, and enjoy a lively panel discussion hosted by Miriam Borthwick.

Rowing WA Brings Rowing to Bunbury Schools

Over 400 Bunbury students got a taste of rowing thanks to a week-long outreach led by Rowing WA School Development Officer, Lara Glendinning and Bunbury Rowing Club Head Coach, Chris Iredale. With ergometers in tow, the team visited three local schools, sparking excitement through technique demos, fun games, and team relays.

Highlights included appearances by State Champions Emilia Cross and Ella Scott-Higgins, plus rising star Aiden Behan.

Aquinas on Canning

The PSA rowing season launched in style on 1 November with Aquinas College hosting the opening regatta on the Canning River.

Despite challenging weather and brisk winds, the event went ahead without hesitation, showcasing the grit and determination of the athletes.

Seven schools fielded 42 Eights, with 336 rowers delivering an action-packed day on the water. Spectators enjoyed great food, coffee, and a lively atmosphere.

Guildford on Swan

The next stop on the PSA rowing calendar is the 26th Guildford on Swan, scheduled for Saturday, 15 November.

• 7:15am - Welcome & Acknowledgement to Country
• 9:00am - 3km races start
• 10:00am - 6.5km races start

With the picturesque Swan River as the backdrop, this regatta promises another exciting chapter in the season.

Parents and families can enjoy morning tea, sausage sizzle, and bacon & egg rolls!

2025 RWA Masters Forum

We have out final Rowing WA Athlete Forum date coming  up:

• Masters: Thursday 20 November | 18:30 – 20:00

Forums are a vital opportunity for clubs to engage with Rowing WA, review the past season from the survey results, and collaborate on building an even better season ahead. 

✅ Reminder: Ensure your club has at least one representative present at the forum to share insights and contribute to the discussions so that we keep improving rowing year on year!

Club Development Spring Series

These sessions are designed to support the personal and professional development of coaches, coxes, volunteers, and club leaders. The sessions are hosted in-person and online and offer practical insights, expert-led discussions, and networking opportunities. Find out more below! Registration is essential.

Golden Oar Regatta - Lake Burley 

Perfect weather, bumper crowds and two thrilling days of racing marked the debut of The Golden Oar, presented by Canberra Airport, on Lake Burley Griffin.

Our very own Giorgia Patten, Bronnie Cox and Alex Rossi were part of the winning crew for the Open Quads, sharing a record-breaking cash prize! Jacqui Swick and Johnson Daubney followed closely with a 3rd place!

More than 300 athletes competed in over 70 crews, with festival vibes, live music and family activities lighting up Black Mountain Peninsula. Highlights included Olympians Alex Hill and Tara Rigney, Croatian stars Martin and Valent Sinković, and a global first for Paralympic rowers with $10,000 prize money up for grabs in their event. #winning!!

Shoutout for Coaches!!

Curtin University Boat Club is seeking enthusiastic coaches for its Men’s and Women’s open squads in 2026.

The casual roles involve two morning sessions per week from the end of the PSA season through to the State Championships in September, working collaboratively under the Head Coach to support athlete development.

Previous coaching or club experience is welcome but not essential, and the positions are well paid.
