Masters State Champs, 3rd May @ Champion Lakes Regatta Centre

With slightly challenging conditions of rain and a stiff tail breeze, our Masters took on Champion Lakes with fire in their hearts. Perhaps it was Alan Salisbury's great inspiration that set the tone. It was a great day of racing right to the end, well done to every athlete that competed! The photographs and medals are a great reminder of the journey it took to get to this point in your season! Click here for results.

Rowing WA would like to thank The City of Armadale for their support of this event. Cr Scott Mosey was in attendance at Prize Giving and he was impressed at the level of competition our sport offers.

Curtin University did an amazing job with hosting, so a huge shout out to all their volunteers.

Last but not least we would like to thank out BRO's for their committment to our sport and for making racing safe!

An insight into the newly developed Oceania U22 Teams Rowing Championships Regatta to be held at West Lakes, South Australia on the 24th -27th of July, 2025

THE HISTORY

This regatta draws on the long history of racing between Australia and New Zealand dating back to the late 1800's, the successful Youth Cup Events held between the states and New Zealand throughout the 2000s, and the more recent Trans-Tasman Regattas of the last decade.

WHAT IS IT?

A Teams competition for U22 Athletes representing their state (in the case of Australia), island (in the case of New Zealand), or country (in the case of visiting teams) to encourage collaboration, competition, and participation.

THE PURPOSE

To provide a key development opportunity for athletes, coaches, and administrators. The event is to be run purely in service of the participants with their experience being the central foundation the event is built upon.

Nominations Open 12th May & Close 21st May. Click here for more information

Shanghai Tour - Rose Regatta, 16th to 18th May!

With support from the Department of Local Government Sports and Culture (DLGSC) Asian Engagement grant, RWA is proud to announce our China tour. Click here for a link to the regatta for further details.

Invitation to this event was received following successful engagement in China by RWA’s Asian Engagement Project Officer, Mark Easterbrook. On the ground conversations with stakeholders influential in Chinese rowing elevated Rowing Western Australia’s profile and prompted this amazing opportunity.

This invitation was extended to several international rowing organisations, intending to create a competitive global regatta for female rowing. This opportunity aligns with a RWA and DLGSC goal of engaging with Asia through our sport of rowing.

The invitation presented an all-expense paid connection through rowing to four female athletes and a tour manager to China and international competition. RWA moved quickly and opened the nominations to our Queen’s and Victoria Cup participants to express their interest in competing.

RWA will be represented at the Shanghai FengXian course by our selected athletes Lara Glendinning, Isabella Utley, Isabelle Emery, and Greta Spencer. They’ll be managed by seasoned international coach/tour manager Olivia Jones.

The team will participate in a 1000m quad and a 500m double event across the weekend. In the week prior they’ll be aligned with a club with opportunities to train on Shanghai waterways. Sightseeing, rowing, and interactions with international teams during their stay, we look forward to following the adventures of our squad.

Follow our ladies and the progress at the regatta using the Rose Regatta link - Rose Regatta & R.R.

As ambassadors for Rowing Western Australia, we wish our ladies well in promoting Western Australia as a rowing destination that builds international quality competitors.

Go WA!

Hour of Power #1 Injury Prevention for Coach Development.

Greg Kerr delivered an insightful and impactful workshop on injury prevention. He demonstrated several effective strategies for coaches to ensure they properly set up each athlete, both on land and on the water, to optimize athlete safety and performance.

Prioritizing the physical well-being of our athletes, from junior rowers to masters rowers, is essential for fostering both retention and growth within our sport.

Please watch this space for future workshops with Greg!!
