Indoor Rowing Program Creates a New Pathway for Adolescent Girls

Shed Fit was a five-week indoor rowing pilot program delivered in partnership with Rowing WA and St Hilda's. Designed to provide a fun, welcoming and non-competitive introduction to physical activity, the program exceeded expectations and attracted girls who may not typically participate in traditional sports. Held at Scotch College’s rowing shed, Shed Fit showcased how inclusive and accessible rowing can be. The valuable insights gained from the pilot will help shape future initiatives aimed at increasing participation, breaking down barriers and creating lifelong connections with physical activity.

What's Happening in our Officials Team?

Our Boat Race Officials (BRO) will be conducting an end of season review on Sunday 4 October. To be conducted at Rowing WA, the review will be looking at what has worked this year and what we could improve for next year. This review will include:

  • Ways to improve both rowers' experience and safety at regattas.
  • Improving training of BROs with rules around all types of regattas.
  • Communication around regatta preparation, including weather planning.
  • Recruitment and how we can encourage more people to join the BRO team.

This review will be brought together with the other end of season reviews with the clubs and rowers, as part of Rowing WA’s continuous improvement program.

Check Your Reporting Practices

See it. Report it. Learn from it.

Near misses, incidents and hazards are opportunities to make our sport safer for everyone. If something doesn't go to plan on the water, don't keep it to yourself. Reporting helps us to identify risks, share lessons and prevent future incidents.

Safety is everyone's responsibility. 💛🖤
