Hospitality Staff Vacancies for Canning Bridge Bar/Restaurant

Rowing WA’s new bar/restaurant at Canning Bridge will be completed next month & the operators of The Rowing Pavilion are looking for casual staff to fill a variety of roles in the new facility.

Roles include:

  • Bar work - pouring beer, making cocktails, serving customers
  • Dining service - greeting customers, clearing tables, running orders 
  • Executing 3 separate services ranging from 6am-11pm (Morning, Lunch and Dinner) 

If you are interested in starting or continuing your career in hospitality, these operators are a great group to work with.

This is a great opportunity for Rowing WA members to pick up some paid work in Perth’s newest waterfront restaurant/bar!!

Make sure to let the team know that you are associated with rowing in your application!!

All Clubs Forum | Tuesday, 18.10.2022

Rowing WA has scheduled an All Clubs Forum at the request of clubs for Tuesday, 18.10.2022 at 6:00pm, with the purpose being to discuss the results of this year’s survey, any remaining queries from our previous forums & the 2023 regatta schedule.

This will be an in person (Swan River Rowing Club) & online Teams meeting.

Ideally, we would like to have 4-5 voices from each club to make sure that we get a broad input of feedback.

Coastal Rowing in 2026 Commonwealth Games after a 40-year Hiatus

Rowing Australia is delighted at the announcement earlier this week by the Commonwealth Games Federation, the Victorian Government and Commonwealth Games Australia that Coastal Rowing (Beach Sprint Format) has been selected to be part of the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CG2026) sports program to be hosted in the State of Victoria.

Rowing Australia CEO, Ian Robson said: “This is a fantastic milestone moment for our sport. We have worked very hard to bring Rowing back to the Commonwealth Games."

Greg has a special interest in rowing injuries & management after having conducted school rowing screening for many years.

Teammate Sought for Ocean Row!

Ocean rower, Heather Taylor has reached out to Rowing WA to let us know she is on the look out for a female teammate to join her on an ocean row in May 2023.

Rowing WA would like to offer First Aid for Mental Health training to 1 member from each club. This course will be run by St John WA at a time & day that suits your member.

The First Aid for Mental Health course contains detailed information about stress, depression, anxiety & suicidality including examples, scenarios & skills practice. This content may be distressing or upsetting for people with lived experience, people with a severe & persistent mental illness or people who are currently experiencing symptoms associated with a mental health issue.

Please take this into consideration when enrolling to attend this training.

Safe Clubs Working Group | Wednesday, 26.10.2022

If you are interested in joining the RWA Working Groups the next Group to meet is the Safe Clubs Working Gorup on 26.10.2022 at 6:00pm.

The Safe Clubs Working Group will provide an opportunity for Rowing WA & affiliated clubs to discuss, compare & share information on strategic issues relating to the Safe Rowing in Clubs in WA.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Water safety – being on the water in boats, swimming ability, life jackets, lights;
  • Operational safety – being off the water, boat loading, driving to regattas/training, OSH;
  • Personal safety – looking after self (mental health, diet and behaviours), child safeguarding, bully and harassment, member protection and drugs in sport.

WA Mental Health Week

In 2022, Mental Health Week in WA will be held over 8-15 October with the theme: 'Where we live. How we live. What we've lived.' 

As rowers, we are continually learning to understand how our body, mind & environment intersect & are essential to overall wellbeing. Physical health – both inside of us & in the world around us – has a major impact on mental health.
