The Speed Exemption is renewed every 1-2 years but reviewed in detail every few years by the Department of Transport to ensure user compliance & appropriate river user safety.  The exemption has been successfully reviewed & is valid from: 26 October 2021 - 1 August 2023.

IMPORTANT: There are several key updates on the current Exemption (from the previous exemption) that require actioning.

The new Rowing WA Water Safety webpage has information related to the new Water Safety Guideline that was developed from the Rowing Australia Water Safety template in consultation with WA rowing club & school stakeholders.

Rowing WA’s Safety Guidelines seek to ensure that personal safety is paramount and that local codes of practice and rules are upheld.  As part of the new conditions under the Speed Exemption, all motorised vessel operators (i.e. coaches) will need to formally acknowledge that they have read and understood these new Safety Guidelines.

The temporary ‘restricted access’ rowing trailer permit that was provided to rowing trailer owners by the Department of Main Roads back in 2014, is due to expire on 31 December 2021.

As of 1 January 2022, the only permit applicable to rowing boat trailers is the 'Rowing Boat Trailer Period Permit'.  This permit does not allow the transport of unsectioned eights.

National Skin Cancer Action Week
Sun, 21.11.2021 - Sat, 27.11.2021

National Skin Cancer Action Week highlights that we need to do more to promote sun protection.

2021 marks the fortieth anniversary of the iconic Slip, Slop, Slap campaign with Sid the Seagull, and yet Australia still has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, including melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Currently two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70 every year, and around 2000 Australians die from this disease.

In our sport we are at a high risk of our skin becoming sun damaged. The 5 forms of sun protection have been ingrained into the rowing community over the years - but there is still more educating to be done to save future generations of rowers.

With National Skin Cancer Action Week commencing this Sunday, now is the perfect time to remind members & fellow crew mates of the importance of #slipslopslapseekslide
