Welcome to our bumper Easter edition of Oar Talk.  We have a wrap up of the 2021 Australian Rowing Championships including all the results from our WA crews along with the official venue announcement from Rowing Australia for 2022's ARC.

There's information on the 2021 WA Masters season which commenced last Saturday along with entry information for the 2021 Australian Masters Rowing Championships hosted by Rowing NSW.

Exciting also is the announcement of two new staff members to Rowing WA - let's show them a warm welcome.  All this and more in this edition of Oar Talk - enjoy the read!

Introducing Sarah Black & Claire Jansen

Rowing WA will soon be joined by two new staff members. Introducing you to our new Development & Operations Manager, Sarah Black; & Development & Operations Coordinator, Claire Jansen!

Sarah joins us all the way from Tasmania.

Sarah has been responsible for the running of a high performance, National Premier League Soccer club in Hobart Tasmania, the Olympia FC Warriors. As long term Board Member then full time General Manager of the Club, her responsibilities were across all elements of the operation and included player recruitment and retention, organisation of the coaching staff from juniors to elite, program development, project management and sponsorship.

Sarah will commence at Rowing WA on the 19th April.

Claire is a local WA girl who a lot of you may already know from our rowing community.

Claire has been involved in rowing since 2002 where she learnt to row at Perth College & most recently was accepted into the University of Queensland’s Graduate Certificate of Sports Coaching where she hopes to increase and diversify her coaching knowledge to support her passion in teaching others to row.

Claire will commence at Rowing WA on the 6th April.

WA Crews Perform at 2021 Australian Rowing Championships!

Rowing returned to the national stage this year with stunning Lake Barrington in Tasmania welcoming athletes, coaches, volunteers & supporters from across the country to the 2021 Aon Australian Rowing Championships.

After last year's cancellation of the ARC due to the COVID-pandemic, it was very exciting for our crews to travel to Lake Barrington to compete.

Coaching appointments for the Australian Rowing Team

Off the back of a successful 2021 ARC, Rowing Australia this week confirmed the coaching appointments for the 2021 Australian Rowing Team.

Congratulations goes to WAIS Head Coach, Rhett Ayliffe who was announced as Australia's Men's Eight coach!

Penrith to play host for 2022 and 2024 events.

Rowing Australia today announced the nation’s best rowers will be returning to Penrith in 2022 and 2024, for the Australian Rowing Championships.

The 2022 Australian Rowing Championships will be held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre from 28 March to 3 April 2022.

2021 Masters Regatta Season Has Commenced!

Our masters season commenced on Saturday, 27.03.2021 at the HQ of rowing, Canning Bridge. The morning saw beautiful racing conditions out on the water that encouraged a great turnout of athletes & spectators. It was a wonderful feeling to stand on the balcony, look out over the boat park & see it full of boats!

Australian Olympic Team's Competition & Delegation Uniforms Revealed

ASICS, the true sport performance brand, and the AOC has revealed the Australian Olympic Team delegation and competition uniforms for Tokyo 2020.

Aussie Olympians and Tokyo 2020 hopefuls including Lucy Stephan (Rowing) presented the ASICS uniforms to be worn during the Games starting this July, in front of the iconic Sydney Opera House.

In developing the uniform, the ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS) considered the heat and humidity which athletes will face in Tokyo and developed a cooling print, strategically placed mesh and technical fabrics to overcome the conditions.

What's On & General Interest

Rowing Australia (RA) has confirmed that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it does not intend to send Under 23, Under 21 or Under 19 athletes to compete internationally.

It is still the intention of RA to select & support our pathway group athletes irrespective of international travel throughout 2021, & RA will announce - post trials - U23, U21 & U19 Australian Rowing Teams.
