MASTERS REGATTA #3

After the dissapointment of Regatta #2 being cancelled due to severe weather conditions, the Masters athletes come together again this saturday (12th April) to showcase the excellence of Masters racing.

Appreciating the dedication of finding the time to train inbetween life and work, getting in hours of on and off water training, and then the racing, leaving nothing out there.

An amazing depiction of this effort in a photo of Nicky Cato and Vanessa Grant from Perth Rowing Club, these photos are worth a thousand words!!

Good luck to all the Masters for Regatta #3  When you have no more legs, row with your heart!!

ROWING WA are proud to annouce the introduction of the Companion Card Policy.

WA are the first State in Australia to put this policy in place. Yeah WA!!

The back story of Glen Walter

Glen started rowing in 1988 with Freedom On The River, a club set up to provide rowing opportunities for people with special needs. Glen has also been a member of Perth Rowing Club since 1988, competing at regattas in Perth Rowing Club colours in adaptive events and also in open competition in all classes of boats. He has attended the National Champs to compete in adaptive events on 12 occasions, 9 over East and 3 in WA.

In recent years Glen had found it  challenging to find a doubles partner for racing with the cost of seat fees being a barrier. Rowing WA has now introduced a Policy around the WA Companion Card program in order to make rowing in crew boats more accessible. Perth Rowing Club have embraced the companion card policy and been extremely supportive of Glen.

Glen is loving the opportunity to be competing in the double again and looking forward to many more years of social and competitive rowing. Glen will be competing in his mixed double for the second time this Saturday. Good luck Glen!

WHAT IS THE COMPANION CARD?

The WA Companion Card Program supports Western Australians with a significant and permanent disability who require attendant care support to participate at community venues and events. Companion Cardholders show their card when booking or purchasing a ticket from a participating business, called an Affiliate. Affiliates will recognise the Companion Card and issue the cardholder with a second ticket for their companion at no charge. Individuals need to apply for a Companion Card to be eligible to receive benefits through Companion Card Affiliates. Further details are available here: https://www.wacompanioncard.org.au/
