2022 Rower of the Year Awards Evening

Saturday, 15th October saw WA clubs come together to celebrate the race that was this year - 2022. The beautiful location of Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club was once again the venue of choice for WA's rowing Night-of-Nights.

It was fantastic to see so many rowers, coaches, administrators, officials, volunteers & supporters of rowing on the evening, gathered to celebrate the year that had been & the amazing successes that had been achieved locally & abroad by the WA rowing fraternity.

Congratulations Fremantle Rowing Club!

Winners of the Club & Schools Engagement Competition.

This inaugural competition proudly supported by Healthway & Act Belong Commit, saw clubs & schools awarded points through the year for their participation in various workshops & events with first prize being a set of branded oars.

The clubs/schools with the highest point scores at the close of the competition were:

  • Fremantle Rowing Club
  • UWA Boat Club
  • ANA Rowing Club

The oars were presented to Fremantle Rowing Club by Olympic Rower, Jack Cleary at our Rower of the Year Awards evening last weekend.


 

2022 RWA Official Encouragement Award Recipient!

Over the coming months, Rowing WA will be featuring our Boat Race Officials & introducing them to the WA rowing community.

As recipient of the inaugural "Rowing WA Official Encouragement Award", presented at the recent Rower of the Year Awards, we would like to introduce you to KG.

KG has officiated at 20 regattas this year with his passion for the sport of rowing evident in his commitment not just in officiating but coaching as well.

He recently went under the microscope for RWA & revealed that his favourite food at a regatta is a sausage sizzle with onions!

We are looking for a highly motivated & energetic Development & Operations Coordinator to join the crew!

This position will coordinate the day-to-day delivery of Rowing WA’s regattas & events portfolio. It will also support the delivery of club, coach & official development initiatives that enhance the recruitment & retention pathways for each of these stakeholder groups.

The program is ideal for those who have a minimal background in rowing and will officiate predominantly at club and school level regattas.

Head of the Swan | 1 WEEK AWAY!

The 2022 Head of the Swan regatta is on Sunday 30.10.2022 - just ONE WEEK AWAY!

CREW CAPTAINS: Have you registered your crew yet? If not, click HERE to register & EMAIL Rob Boylen your crew member list.

Boat classes are coxed 8+'s & 4X+ only. Entries are open to recreational as well as racing members.

Provisional time for race start is 8.30am.

WA Coastal Rowing Working Group | Seeking EOI's

As part of the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan for Rowing in Western Australia, Rowing WA is looking to develop a strategy for the development of Coastal Rowing in the state over the next few years & is seeking expressions of interest from people interested in assisting with the development of the State’s Coastal Rowing Strategy.

EOI submissions close Monday, 31.10.2022 at 9:00am.

History & Heritage Working Group | Saturday, 29.10.2022

The History & Heritage Working Group includes the following responsibilities:

  • Identify people & assets that should be publicly recognised,
  • Identify important memorabilia to rowing in the state & the clubs,
  • Compile a trophy inventory, once compiled reallocate older trophies to current events to ensure that they remain current,
  • Decide if new trophies need to be created & then back dated for perpetual events,
  • Finalise criteria for Awards of Merit & Life Members & compile list of potential nominees,
  • Create a Fundraising Program to provide money for cabinets, awards & memorabilia.
  • Display memorabilia in the Hall of Champions at Champion Lakes.

Rowing WA Water Safety Accreditation

With new coaches commencing as the PSA schools get into their rowing season, this is a timely reminder that all coaches need to have completed the Rowing WA Water Safety accreditation.

As part of Rowing WA Water Safety Guidelines, all operators of Rowing Safety Vessels must be annually accredited with the following:

  • Recreational Skippers Ticket
  • Working with Children
  • Reading & acknowledging the Rowing WA Training Water Safety Guidelines - Found Here
  • Understanding & acknowledgement of the Speed Exemption - Found Here

NSW Boat Race Official Seminar w/ Greg Smith

Similar to last year’s Boat Race Official seminar, Greg Smith will be hosting two sessions this year, which will take place virtually in October and November. Both sessions will be exactly the same & will cover Level 1 & Level 2 information & will be a great source of information for aspiring trainees. The seminar will run for 2 hours with time for questions towards the end.

With this, Rowing NSW would like to extend the invite to all BROs & prospective BROs to join them in either session below. Two dates are scheduled for those who can’t make one or the other:

  • 6pm, Thursday 13th October
  • 6pm, Thursday 10th November
