RA Announces 2019 Junior, U21 & U23 Australian Rowing Teams

Published Mon 29 Apr 2019

Rowing Australia today announced its crews that will race at the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships and the 2019 World Rowing U23 Championships.  In addition, RA also announced the U21 Australian Rowing Team that will compete in the 2019 Trans-Tasman Regatta against New Zealand.

Eleven crews have been named in the U23 Australian Rowing Team that will compete at the 2019 World Rowing U23 Championships to be held in Sarasota, Florida, USA from 24 to 28 July 2019.

Australia will also send six crews to the World Rowing Junior Championships, to be held in Tokyo, Japan from 7 to 11 August 2019.  In addition to being a Junior World Rowing Championships, the event acts as a test event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games rowing events.

Of the athletes & coaches announced today across all teams, WA makes up an overall 19.5% of the contingent representing Australia.  What an amazing achievement to see so many Western Australian rowers & coaches representing their country at the upcoming under-age events!

A special mention goes to our significantly increased representation in the Junior Australia Team with WA athletes & coaches making up an awesome 30% of the team!  Since its implementation in 2017, The ‘Pathways 2020’ Strategy for High Performance Rowing in WA has seen the WA rowing pathway significantly improve.  In 2016 and 2017, WA had no Junior Australia Team representatives.  The strength of this program is testament to the level of collaboration between all rowing stakeholders including WAIS, RWA, Clubs and Schools.  As the strategy approaches the end of its second year, the positive signs for the future are very encouraging.

Congratulations to all our WA rowers and coaches from all of us here at Rowing WA.  We are incredibly proud of you all and will be excitedly watching the upcoming international events, cheering you on from home!
